At the Royal Navy Submarine School within HMS Raleigh, there is an Honours Board with the recipients' name appended. The Trophy will be on display next to the Honours Board. The winner also receives a Certificate, produced and printed by HMS Raleigh.
There are on average 4 courses per year. The Chief Instructors decide on the best student, based not purely on academic results but on those qualities required of a potential Submariner; those qualities being Courage, Loyalty, Discipline, Integrity, Respect for others, and Selfless Commitment. This trophy is kept at the School and not taken away by the pupil. The award winner is presented with a certificate and individual gift including the SA DVD, this trophy is awarded bi-annually.
These visits are totally impartial and treated on a 'first come - first served' basis. Please do not make the assumption that because you came in July one year then that will be for all Julys. Each and every visit must be considered as a 'One Off'. You are welcome to arrange to come again the following year but it must be done in an individual and proper manner.
The Museum lists their Forthcoming Events and also the new Magazine Bravo Zulu, letter of the National Museum of the Royal Navy based in Portsmouth. Links to HMS Alliance is provided.
The Submarine Memorial Fund (S/M Fund) is administered as a restricted fund by the RNBT. The S/M Fund is used to support current and former rating submariners and their dependants and is augmented from the RNBT’s general fund for supporting submariner members of The RNBT Family when required; there is seldom sufficient money in the S/M Fund to meet the demand.
There is no endowment associated with the S/M Fund, it is a case of money in - money out in support of requests for assistance. Grants made are subject to the same criteria as all individual grants made by the RNBT.
